The Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act, which was enacted last year, will go into effect soon. What does this mean for you? One thing is that credit card companies now have a cap on what they can charge a customer for late fees and penalty charges. The new cap is twenty five dollars on all late payments. This, theoretically, will keep companies from taking advantage of cash-strapped customers, and at first glance, seems beneficial. However, it does not correct the problem of why people end up in this financial predicament in the first place. If you find yourselves making late payments or minimal payments on your credit card bills, give us a call. There is a better solution other than capping your penalties and making the minimum payment. According to a book written by Gerald May regarding addictions, there are one hundred and five various things that one could become addicted to. Many of them appear to be good things, such as food, shopping, exercise, work, relationships and prescriptions written by a doctor. However, all of these things can become harmful if we can’t handle them in a correct manner. The use of prescriptions obviously can go south if we misuse them. Staying in a relationship which involves some form of abuse is unhealthy, especially when you continue to try to justify it with excuses. And work could turn into a bad thing if it continually comes before our families. This shows you that any number of things have the potential to become addictive if not handled in a healthy way. Let us know if you need help figuring this out. Comment here.

A couple of major hotel chains are now “relabeling” their locations based upon tastes and budgets. This is good to know since there are times when it’s tempting while we’re on the road to spend too much money to receive things we like, but can’t afford. Hopefully, as you travel the highways and find yourself in need of a room, you won’t spend more than you should. It would be great if we could take this approach to every aspect of our lives. I, too, would like a new truck or the latest, greatest computer, but my budget does not allow that. A budget is a saving and spending plan. Don’t overspend your budget because of the tastes you have. We need to be good stewards of our resources. Comment here.

If you follow the stock market in the process of investing for your future, you’ll notice that it varies a lot from day to day. The S&P 500 has what they call a “200 day average.” The goal is to stay near or above this 200 day average, which is also used as a gauge to determine how the market and economy are doing. Recently, the S&P had declined nearly fourteen percent from this average. That has a tendency to put investors into a tail spin. Did it throw you for a loop? It is very smart to prepare for your future and set realistic financial goals, but how you prepare and where you are investing is another story. Your money will always follow where your heart is. Let us know how you are preparing for your future. Comment here.

Truck drivers deliver most or all of their goods to retail companies. Studies show that these companies lose nearly 33.5 billion dollars a year in revenue due to loss of product. Forty-three percent of this amount is due to theft. I personally have a hard time comprehending that people steal this much product. Is it necessary for people to steal in order to make ends meet, are they doing it out of fun, or just for spite? First of all, everyone knows that stealing is wrong. And secondly, if you find yourself in this forty-three percent, ask yourself why. If you are in dire need of the product, but your finances are too tight to make a legitimate purchase, let someone know. We can help point you in the right direction. Comment here.
