Do you get angry easily? Do you lash out verbally or physically when pushed too far? One must be careful about anger. Is there a just cause, such as when someone’s innocence is violated or the helpless are being taken advantage of? Oftentimes, our anger is about personal offenses; not getting our own way, having someone disagree with us, or having what we feel is our right taken away from us. This kind of anger is usually counterproductive physically, emotionally, and socially. Learn to know the warning signs of your anger before you go too far with your reactions. Need help? Ever have someone so upset with you that they started yelling? I have. What do you do when through no fault of yours, the load arrives late and your receiver is giving you the what for? My natural tendency is to defend myself and get louder as my verbal assailant gets louder. We both try to out-talk the other in order to get our point across. The usual result is hard feelings and maybe a lost customer. I’ve heard of drivers being barred from delivering because of contentions with the shipper. While our reaction is very natural, it’s just the wrong approach for these situations. There is a better way. Would you like to know more?Comment here.

Is it ever right to be angry? How about when that four wheeler who cuts in and out of traffic without leaving you enough space, when someone in the express line ahead of you with a basket filled far above the “express limit” or whenever you see someone not playing by the rules? Are these times when it’s ok to get angry? There is such a thing as righteous anger. However, most of the time my anger does not fit that category. Righteous anger usually occurs when there is an injustice committed against someone who is not connected to me. So, if I become angry because someone offended me personally, that’s probably not righteous anger. In fact, people who get angry easily usually don’t have righteous anger. Even with righteous anger, we still must be careful with our conduct. Want to talk about it? Comment here.

Ever wonder why things happen when they do? Sometimes these events are mere irritants; other times they are frustrating, extensive and expensive delays, which appear to be counter-productive to your bottom line. I have heard many stories of things that went wrong for drivers at the wrong time. Many times, the drivers who told me these stories could look back and see good purpose in the incidents, no matter how inconvenient they seemed at the time. Some of them even told me that they no longer become upset over delays or obstacles. That is a wonderful way to live. Want to talk about it? Comment here.

When I was a kid in second grade, at the end of recess one of the teachers would blow a whistle before the bell would ring. We were supposed to line up, wait for the bell and then march into our classrooms. One day, when I ran to line up, I accidentally ran into the kid ahead of me. He turned around, slugged me and said, “Sorry, but I had to do that.” Now, if he’d hit me really hard, I might have slugged him back. Then we would have started exchanging slug for slug because the tit for tat attitude leads to escalation. Problem is if we are prone to getting even, we’ll become prisoners to those who offend us. Fortunately, there is an alternative called forgiveness. Forgiveness leads to a free and peaceable life. Choose forgiveness today. If you need help with that, give us a call. Comment here.

The word admonish means to express warning or to give friendly advice. All too often, I hear people complaining about what others have done to them. Of course, they have the answer as to what should be done about it. Why do I tell you this? Because when someone does something that hurts you, instead of complaining about it, admonish the person that hurt you. Remember to do it in a friendly manner and as lovingly as possible as opposed to yelling or doing it with force. By sharing with the person that has hurt you, you will give them the opportunity to change and keep yourself free from gossip. Let us know if we can help. Comment here.

How hard would it be if everyone forgave everybody each and every time, for each and every thing that's been done to us? That sounds like an enormous task especially when you think about the number of people and the number of wrongs that are committed daily. But if we each did our own part, in our own little world, then it would appear to me that the task would not be so huge. Even though it would take all of us to really get this done, it can start with just you today. Forgive the driver that cut you off or gave you the one-fingered salute. I’m pretty sure someone else has forgiven you. Comment here.

Humble or gentle are a couple of words that you don’t hear used very often in the trucking industry. Maybe that’s because many truckers interpret those words to mean being weak or insignificant. I beg to differ. It takes more guts and character to be completely humble and gentle towards others when we’re upset. In fact, it’s easier to fly off the handle and cause a commotion. Anyone can let their emotions flair up; it takes more power to keep them under control. Let me encourage you today to be humble and gentle. If you need help, let us know. Comment here.
